In December 22 1947, Fats Navarro cut a date under the leadership of tenor saxophonist Dexter Gordon.
Dexter Gordon recorded with Wardell Gray for Dial label as the famous sax battle “The Chase” in June.
Then on December Dexter was back in New York to record for Savoy label.
Savoy producer Teddy Reig assembled Tadd Dameron and Nelson Boyd and Art Madigan as “Dexter Gordon And His Boys.”
Navarro joined three of the four tunes they laid down.
Particulaly “Dextrose” and “Index’” were fine performance by his perfect technique and controlled creativity.
The recordings were done in great sound and have long been considered among performance at Savoy.
This recordings became the last recording by Fats navarro on Savoy.
I want to post on another occasion an other labels than Savoy label.
