Dave Brubeck was an outspoken advocate of racial harmony through his musical activity.

There was an impressive story about his activity.

He once canceled 23 of 25 concerts in the South when local officials would not allow his African American bass player, Eugene Wright, to appear with the rest of the group.

He had recognized the importance of charitable activities by the music and willingly participated the Jazz Ambassadors program.

Then Dave Brubeck and his wife Iola produced a jazz musical.

It was made a formal request for spreading American culture and music around the world by the U.S. Department of State.

This musical was titled The Real Ambassadors.

The Brubecks and Louis Armstrong acted as unofficial ambassadors for their countries.

Louis Armstrong led Lambert, Hendricks & Ross and Carmen McRae.

Teo Macero produced the musical’s soundtrack album in 1961.

Also the musical was performed at the Monterey Jazz Festival in 1962.

Dave Brubeck
