In 1944 Dexter Gordon joined the Fletcher Henderson Orchestra.

Fletcher Henderson arrived in Los Angeles on April 18, with only eight men.

In other words, Dexter Gordon was a locally procured member.

They went to LA for  the opening show of the Joe Morriis’ Club Plantation.

It was California’s Larget Harlem Night Club.

I will quote an article from Downbeat Magazine.

Down Beat、May 15,1944

“He[Fletcher Henderson] had picked up good local men as replacements and they were doing pretty smooth job on that very difficult book of Fletcher’.”

Club Plantation
