In 1931 Isham Jones composed “You’re Just a Dream Come True”.

It becoming the band’s lovely theme song.

In those days Gordon Jenkins was hired as arranger.

Gordon had arranged for the Jones band for many years.

Jenkins was given the opportunity to develop his skills in melodic scoring.

Finally I will introduce my favorite piece by Isham Jones

In December 1927, Benny Goodman joined Jones’ band for a few months.

In those days Jones had assemble the best musicians in Chicago.

Unfortunately they made no records.

Interestingly Benny Goodman and Isham Jones had recorded the same song,“Georgia Jubilee” .

In February 2,1934 Benny Goodman recorded with Coleman Hawkins, and the producer was Milt Gabler.

In July 16 Isham Jones Orchestra recorded “Georgia Jubilee” .

Please compare two recordings.

1931年Isham Jonesは「You’re Just a Dream Come True」を作曲しました。

「You’re Just a Dream Come True」について、Isham Jones楽団以外は確認出来ませんでした。

それ故最後に私が一番好きなIsham Jonesの演奏を紹介させて頂きます。

「Georgia Jubilee」

The partnership of Frank Sinatra and Gordon Jenkins was most famous.

Gordon Jenkins won a Grammy Award in 1965 for his arrangement of Sinatra’s “It Was a Very Good Year.” Go here

But before Jenkins became Sinatra’s arranger, he worked closely with Dick Haymes on Decca Records for much of the 1940s.

In those days Jenkins was musical director for Decca records.

In the early fifties Jenkins gave an opportunity to perform on many big sellers such as “Little White Lies” by Dick Haymes.

Their work “Little White Lies” was a million seller in 1949.

I had posted about Gordon Jenkins.Go here and here.

Here is Dick Haymes sings “Little White Lies.”

Gordon Jenkins was an American arranger who was an influential figure in popular music in the 1940s and 1950s.

Jenkins also wrote well-known several songs.

My favorite is the three songs of the following.

‘P.S. I Love You’, ‘Goodbye’, ‘When a Woman Loves a Man’

In particular,‘Goodbye’ is famous as the last song of the program that Benny Goodman had broadcasted.

I found a excellent album for this piece.

The following album is also interesting.

‘A Little Touch of Schmilsson in the Night’ was sung by American singer Harry Nilsson conducting by Gordon Jenkins.

No One Cares by Frank Sinatra

This record is my most favorite work in Capital era.

It was recorded in1959 and arranger was Gordon Jenkins.

Capital records was produced the best form by ‘the loneliness of Frank Sinatra’ and ‘the tenderness of the Gordon Jenkins’.

Frank Sinatra close his eyes quiet and surrender himself to the orchestra.

He said about Gordon Jenkins.

“Music of Gordon Jenkins gives us the peace of mind as if being in the womb of the mother.”
