3月例会の特集「あなたの好きなカウント・ベイシー」について、今回は4人の会員がご紹介された演奏(計15曲)をお楽しみ下さい。

ゲテ物食いにふさわしく、本流ではない所で「ペイシー」を手探りしてみました。まず、ベイシ 一楽団歴代名手によるソロパートのヴォーカル化に挑戦したというグループLH&R(デイブ・ランバート、ジョン・ヘンドリックス、アニー・ロス)と、同楽団1958年に共演した「SING ALONG WITH BASIE」から2曲。
1. 「JUMPIN’ AT THE WOODSIDE」(1938年デッカセッションのレスターts、Eウォーレンsを男声、Bクレイトンtpを女声で)
2. 「TICKLE TOE」(1940年レスター作曲。男声がレスターts、女声がHエディソンtpのパートを)
続いては1960年初頭からポップス界の寵児となったビートルズの曲ばかりを演奏した1966年の「Basie’s Beatle Bag」から2曲。
3. 「MICHELLE」(ビートルズ代表曲のひとつをフルバンドで)
4.「YESTERDAY」(ベイシーのオルガンでビル・ヘンダーソンが歌いあげます)
