One of Tommy Dorsey’s best vocalists of the 1930s was Edythe Wright.

Today I would like to introduce Tommy Dorsey and His Clambake Seven featuring Edythe Wright.

「 Tommy Dorsey and His Clambake Seven featuring Edythe Wright(トミー・ドーシーコンボ名演集ーイーディス・ライト快唱集)」

Tommy Dorsey and His Clambake Sevenをあまり真剣に聞いておりませんでした。

I’m Glad There Is You (first published in 1941)

January 24.2018

“I’m Glad There Is You” is a song written by Jimmy Dorsey and Paul Madeira(Paul Mertz).

The song was recorded on featuring Bob Eberly on vocal,December 22, 1941.

Please listen to my favorite piece “I’m Glad There Is You”.

このアルバムから私の大好きな「I’m Glad There Is You」が選曲されました。

Bix and his Rhythm Jugglers in 1925. Left to right: Howdy Quicksell, Tom Gargano, Paul Mertz, Don Murray, Bix Beiderbecke, Tommy Dorsey. Courtesy Red Hot Jazz Archive.

そんな訳で私のお気に入りの「I’m Glad There Is You」をブログに添付しました。

“You’ve Got Me Crying Again”   was written by Isham Jones, with lyrics by Charles Newman, and was published in 1933.

Elsie Carlisle had sang this song from early period.

She was a popular English female singer both before and during the British dance band era of the 1920s and 1930s.

Fortunately I found the video that she sang to “You’ve Got Me Crying Again”.

Today I will post about his early activity.

Adrian Rollini was born June 28, 1903 in New York.

He was a child prodigy on piano, genius of bass sax, equally genius on vibes.

When he was at four, he gave a Chopin recital at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, New York.

Also at 14 he led own band in New York, and he doubled on piano and xylophone.

He began to pioneer the bass saxophone and introduced to the California Ramblers in 1922.

He also worked with  Bix Beiderbecke and Frankie Trumbauer.

In 1934 he put together some recording sessions that featured Jack Teagarden, Bunny Berigan and Benny Goodman.

This week has posted about Jimmy Dorsey.

And finally I want to write my most favorite record.

In 1949, Jimmy Dorsey formed his Original ‘Dorseyland’ Jazz Band, a Dixieland combo taken from the personnel of his big band. While Dorsey had been emphasizing his alto playing since the late ’30s and became famous for his pop hits.
It is as if Dorsey was finally liberated from his role as a big-band leader and could at last devote his energy completely to jamming among near-equals.

Recently I found a wonderful website about him.

http://www.bigbandlibrary.com/jimmydorsey.html

You can enjoy more than my poor English.

Generally speaking, he was not popular compared with Tommy Dorsey.

From now on I want to introduce his great achievement to Japan’s jazz fan by my blog.
