Isham Jones’ compositions(2) “There Is No Greater Love”

October 04,2017

Isham Jones led one of the finest dance bands of all time for some seventeen years from 1919 to 1936.

“There Is No Greater Love” lyrics by Marty Symes was the last hit before the bandleader turned over to Woody Herman in 1936.

「There Is No Greater Love」(作詞 Marty Symes)は1936年に作曲されました。

この曲はWoody Hermanがバンドリーダーを引継ぐ直前のヒット作品でした。

本日紹介する中でAmy Winehouseは異色の存在だと思います。

By the early 1960s, Thielemans had become increasingly popular in the studios as a harmonica player and whistler. So his guitar playing had become less.

On 23 January 2009, he joined the memory of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Django Reinhardt.

In addition he established an independent record label “GNP Crescendo Record Co”.

The ‘GNP’ stand for ‘Gene Norman Presents’.

He produced a series of live albums and studio recordings based around his promotions.

Artists recorded by GNP over the years include Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton, Max Roach, and Art Tatum.

I want to post about the recording of Max Roach/Clifford Brown Quintet.

Clifford Brown and Max Roach arrived in California in the spring of 1954.

Roach and Brown shared a two bedroom apartment where they began the collaboration that became one of the most talked about quintets to emerge in jazz.

Gene Norman executed a contract with Max Roach to record the quintet in California.

Gene Norman recorded that concert and released the first commercial recording of the Clifford Brown/Max Roach Quintet.

Needless to say the announcement was Gene Norman.
