50年代の白人ビッグバンド(ジャズ喫茶オアシス土曜会回顧)①

「世界ジャズ人名事典(1976年SJ誌)に「ジャズ喫茶オアシス」の懐かしい広告が掲載されていました。
その広告には毎週「土曜会」が開催されると記載されています。「土曜会」ではベテランジャズファンの解説で、当時ジャズ初心者であった小生には全く知らないレコードが毎週紹介されていました。
久し振りにその当時記録していた「ジャズ喫茶ノート」を読み直し、「土曜会」の雰囲気を振り返ってみようと思います。
今回は「50年代の白人ビッグバンド」を2回に分けてブログを作成致します。

Gene Norman was jazz impresario and radio disc jockey and jazz label president.

He was born 30. Jan. 1922 in Brooklyn, New York.

He began his professional life as a disc jockey.

After relocating to Los Angeles in the 1940s, he became a popular jazz disc jockey on various local stations.

While working of disc Jockey, he organized live jazz concerts on local stages.

He promoted a historic jazz concerts with Benny Goodman, Dizzy Gillespie and Shorty Rogers.

Their concerts were held at at the Shrine and the Civic Center and the Hollywood Bowl.

He also hosted jazz programs on local television,”The Gene Norman Show”.
