Lionel Hampton And His Just Jazz All Stars
2月の放出例会の持ち寄り、ジャムセッションとは無縁と思いこみ、「聴きに徹しようか」と思っていたのですが、実はジャズの目覚めは18歳を迎える昭和28年(1953年)の正月、一族の子らが集う席へ遠縁の大学生が持ち込んだSP2枚の表と裏の計4面にわたる「スターダスト」でした。すっかり魅了され、繰り返し聴いて長年の愛聴曲となったのですが、ハンプトンのイントロで始まり、ウイリー・スミス(as)、チャーリー・シェイバース(tp)、バーニー・ケッセル(g)ら初めて名を知る名手が音を紡ぎ、やがて圧倒的なハンプトンのソロに。これこそ、まさにジャムセッションだったのですね。
