Allen Eager remains one of the unheralded giants of the tenor sax in the 1940s.
He could swing in an eerily similar fashion to Lester Young
Also Wardell Gray was an equally early Lester Young exponent on the West Coast.
Last Year I had read an interesting interview about “Teddy Reig’s All Stars(1947)”
Marty Napoleon who was known as the pianist in Louis Armstrong’s All Stars talks with JazzWax.

Interview: Marty Napoleon (Part 2)
I got a call from Teddy Reig , the producer at Savoy. He asked me to play the session with Shelly Manne, Kai Winding, Allen and Eddie Safranski. Allen could play beautifully but he was a strange guy.
In the studio, he refused to play anything everyone suggested. He kept saying the stuff was too square. So we recorded four tracks that were based on the chord changes to other things. Like O-go-Mo was based on Idaho.
